Abstract

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is a common disease among elderly men. Patients experience symptoms of lower urinary disturbances. In Indonesia, the prevalence of BPH ranks as the second most common disease after urinary tract stones with 3.5 million cases in 2019. After undergoing TURP surgery, patients will undergo hospitalization, the length of which varies for each patient. Thus, it is necessary to conduct research to look for factors that influence the patient's length of stay after TURP surgery. This study used an observational analytic method with a cross-sectional approach. This research was conducted at RSUD Dr. H. Abdul Moeloek Lampung Province from January 2018-April 2023 with a total sample of 46 people taken using the total sampling method. From 46 patients, the mean age was found to be 72 years with a mean Length of Stay (LOS) of 6 days. The Mann Whitney test revealed no significant difference in the mean values for the variables of blood clot retention (p=0.365) and hematuria (p=0.261). Correlation analysis showed no significant relationship between patient LOS and age (p=0.279), systolic blood pressure (p=0.359), diastolic blood pressure (p=0.434), Fasting Blood Glucose (p=0.365), leukocyte count (p=0.093), sodium (p=0.076), serum creatinine (p=0.072), and catheter removal time (p=0.167). There was a significant association between hemoglobin levels and post-TURP LOS (p=0.037). There is a significant association between hemoglobin levels but no significant relationship between age, blood pressure, Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG), leukocyt, sodium levels, serum creatinine levels, hematuria, blood clot retention, and catheter removal time with LOS of patients with BPH undergoing TURP surgery at Dr. H. Abdul Moeloek Regional General Hospital in Lampung Province from 2018 to 2023.
